"Anthony has changed my life. I've played for over 40
years and studied with him for the past 5 years. The combination of
his knowledge of music with his technical prowness and his ability
to convey both in a completely understandable and useable manner put
him in a class totally by himself." |
| "Some guys are good players; some guys are
good teachers. Anthony Wellington
is both."

| "Anthony exhibits patience, which is a must have for
all teachers, when instructing his students with new
concepts and techniques.
I remember a time when I had difficulty playing a lick
that he demonstrated and instead of him just saying, “practice
it later, so we can move on”,
he waited until I was able to play it at ¼ speed and offered
encouragement. It’s that type of quality, in his character, that
keeps me coming back for more." Dujuan Jones - Bassology, DC |
| "Anthony is my "Sensei" on the bass.
His lessons help to bring home music theory, with well-developed excersizes
and ideas on how to apply theoretical concepts to your work as a musician.
As a music teacher, he helps his students to overcome initial tendencies
to focus on which notes to play, which we often do to the detriment of
other musical concepts such as rhythm, technique, attack, use of silence,
and so forth. And, on top of all of that, he inspires and challenges
you to be the best person that you can be in all areas of your life,
which you bring to the table when you create music." Francis Luong (Franco) - Bassology, DC |
| "Anthony is one of the most gifted musicians
I've ever met. You'll learn much more than bass from him - you'll learn
to play music."
"Anthony's got a knack for tailoring lessons to the individual needs of the student. His musical abilities are brilliant, and he can teach anything the student wants to learn." Rob Haynes - Bassology, DC |
| "I have spent the last 15 years teaching myself
the wrong ways to play bass and recently decided to seek
out an instructor. After attending a couple of lessons
from local music stores it was clear to me that I
needed a dedicated and experienced bass player to help me re-learn my instrument. Within two lessons Anthony was drilling down into the core of my problems and was structuring his lesson plans to help me over come my weak spots. In just three months time, I have an all new perspective on music as a whole and I am proud to have Anthony as my instructor. Playing bass is Anthonys life and he teaches his art with the utmost dedication." Doug Pettway - Bassology, DC |
| "My name is Russ Evans. I live in Vermont.
After seeing Anthony Wellington playing with Victor Wooten...well it
was bassicly a religious experience. Anyway, very soon after the show,
I e-mailed Ant with some questions. I never thought I would hear back
from him, being of his stature and schedule. He responded to me within
two hours. To this point, I was self-taught. After several weeks, I asked
him if he would consider a long-distance student. He said yes, with a
couple of requirements and specific instruction beforehand. Upon completion,
I scheduled my first lesson. Here is the best stuff... 1) Ant welcomed me into his house and let me crash in a spare room after I drove 8.5 hours to get there. 2) My lesson was on a Sunday morning at 8:00am for almost three hours...Yes, it was like gettin' church 3) I learned more in those three hours and the conversation the night before about bass, and its relationship to everything around us, than I ever could've imagined. 4) I have many, many months to go before I get all my material completed so that I can schedule my next lesson, but it is simply amazing what I've been shown and what I've learned from working with Ant for only my first three hours. He is truly, the best teacher, of anything, I've ever studied with. ONE MORE THING...and I'll never forget this... At the end of my lesson, I was getting in my van to go back to Vermont...Ant Thanked Me for coming down. I was speechless. I had just completed my first lesson with the Stevie Ray Vaughan of Bass... and he thanked me." Russell Evans |
| I came to Anthony a self taught 30 year old bass player with some
innate ability, but bumping up against the ceiling. I hit a plateau. Anthony help push my playing to the next level with his balanced approach, I am learning that bass playing is just as much about soul and intellect as it is about having a great ear. Anyone can teach you how to be showy in a music store, Anthony will teach you the fundamentals... Ngozi Pole - Bassology, DC |
| I'm currently one of Anthony Wellington's student's. " I
can honestly say; I've only worked with Ant for little over a year and
I've learned more with him than I had with the other 3 instructors I
had for the previous 4 years. Well Worth the Money!!!!! Jason Jones - Bassology, DC |
| I am one of Anthony's newest students, I've been with him less than one
year. I am also one of (if not the) oldest student who has never Lorraine David-Quick - Bassology, DC |

the lesson starts, he quickly identified my strengths and weakness's
and adjusted my lessons accordingly. Essentially, he created a custom-made

| "I have been teaching and playing for 22 years.
Anthony spent one afternoon playing the bass with me. He plays bass with
unquestioned prowess and added many ideas to my own teaching curriculum.
Thanks, Anthony" Russ Hodges - Bassology, DC |
"Anthony has the skill and intuition to know just what i need to know when i need to know it. He has helped me improve my skills as a musician and bassist.". George Henderson - Bassology, DC |
"Anthony is a monster player that brings himself down to your level of playing. He teaches from the heart and gives you reasons why things work the way they do. He tells it like it is but, explains every movement thoroughly. He analyzed my playing, of 34 years, and made suggestions to improve my technique and playing ability. I also live 4 hours from his studio and he went out of his way to help me find lodging so I wouldn't have to do all the driving in one day. I would highly recommend Anthony to anyone that wants to go beyond and take it to "your" limits!....Thanks Ant! " Bob Capone - Bassology, DC |
Anthony Wellington---Master Teacher, Master PlayeràMaster Musician. I am a high school junior and I am looking to study music when I go to college. I had a late start with the bass but I was dedicated to get up to speed. I heard Anthony play with Victor Wooten and then I looked him up online. I sent him an email and he replied within an hour! I spent the next few days trying to convince my parents to drive me from Philly to Maryland for a bass lesson. They though I was crazy, but I eventually persuaded them. After my first 3 hour lesson and after they met Anthony, my parents said they were glad that I followed my heart. Bass and music were presented to me in a way that is indescribable. I learned to look at the bass from an entirely new perspective and this is where my playing changed. Anthony knew that I had a lot of work to do and I take what I learn in every lesson and practice for hours a day. -Kenny Rodgers - Bassology, Philadelphia |
Ok this isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I thought I would blow right through. As I type I realize that I could write a short story here, but I don’t want to sound like Anthony’s PR guy, wife or mother. So I am going to keep it short and sweet. Addicted to Bassology |
I have found that Anthony Wellingtons method of teach to be valuable to the practicing bass player, as well as, the advanced players. The first time I met with Anthony he first worked with me to see what level I was playing at and worked from there. His exercises and instruction were very valuable to me. I've been playing for over 27 years and after I reached College, I found it difficult to find a teacher that had as much knowledge, as well as, the patience to show me how to improve my playing. I recommend any level of bass player to learn from this Bass Master. The sooner the better!!!!! I am also thankful that there is a place for bass player in the Delaware Valley area to get bass equipment, clinics, service and private lessons. Thanks Glenn for your venue at Bass Specialties, Philly PA (Mechanics Village Road and Street Road) Tim Kolber (Kolber Studios, Currently playing with Slamm) - Bassology, Philadelphia |
One lesson last a lifetime....I'm a career student with Anthony Derrik Garner - Bassology, Philadelphia |
Having ant as my teacher is one of the greatest moves I have made in becoming a musician. In just one month my whole musical experience has opened up. At first it was a humbling experience but once I faced the facts and started practicing what he gave me to practice I have gotten better almost instantly. As a result of this experience happening at Bass Specialties I have had the pleasure of auditioning for Owen Fiidla Brown. The result: I am now a part of the Chocolate Wireworks Family. Aside from being one of the most down to earth, friendly, inspiring, and dedicated people I know, Anthony knows how to break down music and relate it in ways that make sense. Furthermore, he demonstrates how new knowledge and tools can help you broaden your musical perspective. He is geared toward taking you from being a player to becoming a musician. |
